St Mary’s Church, Whaplode
Project type
HiHistoric building survey, 3D laser scanning, roofing repair support
Date
November 2025
Location
St Mary’s Church, Whaplode, Lincolnshire
VOOR carried out a targeted 3D scan and measured survey of the south aisle roof at St Mary’s Church, Whaplode, to support proposed roofing repairs and upgrades. The issued survey package recorded the roof in detail through overall and area-specific plans, sections, spot levels and heat maps, giving the project team the information needed for repair planning, contractor coordination and setting out on site.
This was hands-on survey work, not a desk exercise. VOOR physically accessed the roof and scanned it directly to capture the geometry of the south aisle roof accurately, then translated that information into a practical drawing set that could be used to move the repair works forward.
The building’s heritage context was critical. Historic England lists the Church of St Mary, Whaplode as a Grade I listed building. The official entry describes it as a multi-phase parish church with fabric dating from around c.1140, later medieval additions and later alterations, which reinforces the need for careful survey work before any repair intervention.
The response to the work was very positive. The project lead described the survey information as incredibly detailed and very impressive, and the client team were also very impressed with the output and its usefulness to the project.
